| Our Parish Partners The statistics and studies boggle the mind:
- More than 140,000 of our neighbors’ children live in poverty in Minnesota.
- Visits to Catholic Charities' food shelves increased 91 percent in September 2009 compared with September 2008.
- Half the people who eat food from the food shelves are children.
- The Dorothy Day Center doesn’t have any more room to put mats on the floor for people to sleep.
Catholic Charities works to change that.
Children who attend Catholic Charities' Northside Child Development Center score better on their kindergarten readiness tests than their peers. That fact becomes more impressive when you realize the children come from homes with annual household incomes between $8,000 and $14,000 a year.
Catholic Charities helps people move out of shelters and into stable housing. Diane, who stayed at the Dorothy Day Center for four months, attends nursing school and has stable housing.
Catholic Charities wants to eliminate poverty. But we need your help.
Our work to serve those most in need and call for justice in the community cannot be done alone. Together, we can improve the lives of people in our community.
A Resource for Parishes With advocacy and volunteer opportunities and an interactive poverty presentation, Catholic Charities can help your parish put its faith into action and change the lives of those most in need.
